first_imgRegional airline Flybe has said that its new flights to Newquay from London Gatwick have been a “huge success”.Following the launch of the flight, the airline has secured over half (56 percent) of the market share for travel between the two destinations, with the number of passengers travelling to the Cornish seaside resort from the capital having increased by 83 percent.The success of the three-times-daily flight, which was launched on February 15th, has resulted in Flybe choosing to increase the frequency on its Sunday service over the summer period.Mike Rutter, Flybe’s chief commercial officer, said that the airline is “delighted with the tremendous success” of the new route.”Winning a market-leading share in our first month is testament to the success of the Flybe business model that has not only proved popular with passengers but also helped almost double the traffic on the route,” he commented.”That’s got to be good news for the south-west’s economy in these troubling times.”Flybe this week forecasted an eight percent increase in ticket sales over the Easter period.
