Most packs have seen a drop in the price and altered channel list.advertisement Amritanshu Mukherjee New DelhiMay 31, 2019UPDATED: June 3, 2019 09:57 IST HIGHLIGHTSMost regional channel packs get extra channels for slightly reduced prices.Tata Sky reduced the prices of its Set-Top boxes earlier as well. The Binge service also offers access to many popular OTT platforms at Rs 249 per month. The DTH market has recently seen a lot of action, especially after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) came in with the new regulations. While the intention of the new regulations was to make the entire DTH and cable TV sector more transparent and fair, it ended up raising overall costs. To adjust the prices and ensure no migration to OTT platforms, all DTH operators have been offering custom channels packs at reduced prices, especially when compared to the new system. Tata Sky has also been doing the same for a while and has recently come up with revised prices for its channels. The newly revised channel packs spotted first by Telecom Talk, carry revised pricing and updated channel lists. Beginning with the Gujarati Regional pack, the revised plan now offers five channels instead of four channels. The additional channel does increase the price too – instead of the older price of Rs 7 per month, the new pricing stands at Rs 8.49.On the other hand, the Tamil Family Sports Pack offers an additional channel, increasing the total number of channels to 77. However, this pack now comes at a lower price of Rs 254.27. Similarly, the Telugu Family Sports Pack now costs Rs 282 and also gets one extra channel. Tata Sky also altered other channel packs such as the Kannada Family Sports HD, Malayalam Family Sports HD, Hindi Starter, Hindi Starter HD, Kannada Smart Plan and others. The reduction in prices is mostly Tata Sky’s attempt to make its channel bouquets more appealing than before. If you look at the prices of custom channel packs from all operators, it becomes evident that Tata Sky is one of the costliest STH services and with the new regulations in place, it makes sense for people to make the jump to other DTH services or OTT platforms.advertisementTata Sky has also been reducing prices in other areas as well. Recently, it reduced the prices of its set-top boxes by Rs 400. Therefore, the Standard Definition box now costs Rs 1,600 while the High Definition Box now costs Rs 1,800.To capture the migrants to OTT platforms, Tata Sky also introduced its Binge service that offers a single subscription of Rs 249 per month, which includes access to some popular OTT platforms such as Hotstar, SunNXT, Hungama and more. Those who opt for the Binge service also get a custom Amazon Fire TV Stick as part of the package.ALSO READ | Major price cuts for Tata Sky Set-Top Boxes: Both HD and SD boxes get Rs 400 cheaper ALSO READ | New DTH regulations have made 49 per cent consider switching to online streaming servicesALSO READ | Soon, you may no more need to buy a Set Top Box while changing your DTH connectionGet real-time alerts and all the news on your phone with the all-new India Today app. Download from Post your comment Do You Like This Story?
