More Investment Needed in Education

first_imgThe Regional Program Officer of the Right To Play (RTP) based in Accra, Ghana has described education as the single most important investment that any nation can make for the wellbeing of its citizens.George Boakye-Yiadom noted that “education is a catalyst for sustainable change” and helps to stimulate economic growth, improve maternal, newborn and child health.He also observed that education deepens the foundation for good governance, stability and democracy and empowers women and girls.Boakye -Yiadom made the statements last Thursday at a one-day national consultation with officials of the Ministry of Education and partners for the RTP for the Advancement of Quality Education (PAQE) held in Monrovia.The program sought to address the educational needs of over two million vulnerable and marginalized children and youth.He indicated that the PAQE Program is a two-year pilot quality education program that is expected to kick off in October in eight countries – Benin, Ghana, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Pakistan.He explained that the purpose of the consultations is to provide the platform for partners to contribute to the development of a robust and realistic program implementation plan for PAQE.In remarks, Assistant Education Minister Felicia Doe- Somah expressed gratitude that Liberia has been selected to participate in the two-year pilot PAQE program to buttress government’s efforts to improve Liberia’s educational sector.Minister Doe-Somah said the Education Ministry will collaborate with RTP Liberia to successfully implement the program to enhance the learning capacity of Liberian children.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Golf News: Joan Murphy the latest to win a Turkey at Barnhill…..

first_imgThe quest for turkeys continues at Barnhill, combined with the super weather and the run down to Christmas the competition is continuing at a pace.The latest winners, playing the back nine were Joan Murphy with 18pts, the runner-up Kay Kelly on 16pts(bot). Another set of winners Angela Bradley 20pts, in second place Anne Cannon 19 pts.Congratulations ladies, there are still more to win! Over 200 horses ran in the ever popular ‘Night at the Races’ all horses generously sponsored by the club members. Even though the punters were scarce on the ground the betting was hot and heavy. A very enjoyable and in some cases a lucrative night was had by all.This of course would not have happened but for the hard work of Anne Condon who as usual works tirelessly for the club.Over 2000 euros was raised .All profits going to benefit the course and club. Thanks to all who sponsored races and horses, also to all who turned up on the night.
