Director Teodora Sumagaysay of theDepartment of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Iloilo said the CalinogMunicipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) and Municipal Development Council(MDC) convened on Nov. 15 and passed a joint resolution creating the MTF to EndLocal Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC). The other municipalities wereAlimodian, Maasin, Janiuay, and Lambunao. Sumagaysay said another orientationwill be conducted for the members of the Provincial Task Force ELCAC to deepentheir understanding on their roles and also their involvement in thegovernment’s efforts to end local insurgency. ILOILO City – The municipalities ofCalinog and Tubungan in the province of Iloilo were the first to establishmunicipal task forces (MTF) to end local communist armed conflict. Sumagaysay said Janiuay, Alimodian andMaasin already scheduled the joint meeting of their respective MPOCs and MDCsto establish their task forces.  Earlier this month, DILG-Iloiloconvened the local chief executives and police chiefs of these six towns to briefthem about President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70 and theirinvolvement in the implementation. This was followed by the municipalityof Tubungan on Nov. 19. Calinog and Tubungan were among thesix municipalities in Iloilo with barangays influenced by insurgents asreported by the Philippine Army. Participants will be briefed on EO 70,Joint Circular Operationalizing EO 70 and the Retooled Community SupportProgram during the orientation tentatively set this week. Sumagaysay said the PTF ELCAC willhave 12 clusters of efforts in planning and harmonizing the government programsand services to be brought to these insurgency affected communities.
