first_imgDONEGAL North East TD Padraig MacLochlainn warned tonight that Sinn Fein lawyers are examining the Government’s decision to sign up to the EU treaty.Deputy McLochlainn, speaking on Tonight with Vincent Browne on TV3, said the agreement was “outrageous.”The Inishowen man described the treaty as “a bizarre solution which will please Angela Merkel but won’t solve Ireland’s problems.” He said his party had consulted legal advice on whether or not a referendum was required on the treaty.Deputy MacLochlainn said every international expert – including many capitalists – also believed the treaty offered no solution to the European financial crisis. He said the German banks had been ‘utterly wreckless’ in the crisis. He was speaking after some tetchy exchanges in Dail Eireann earlier. Taoiseach Enda Kenny confirmed that he has sough formal advice from the Attorney General on whether a referendum will be required on the new intergovernmental treaty. The treaty was agreed by European Union leaders in Brussels on Monday night.Speaking during Leaders’ Questions in the Dáil, Mr Kenny reiterated that the Government will act on the advice from Máire Whelan.Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin called on the Government to ensure that the public will be properly informed on the treaty, saying it was “morally right to consult with the people”.In response, Mr Kenny said he presumed that in asking him to consult with the people Mr Martin was asking him to hold a referendum. He added that if a referendum was required then it would be held.Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams accused the Taoiseach of being “buddy buddy” with French President Nicolas Sarkozy at yesterday’s EU summit. He said Mr Kenny was “ag imirt an amadáin le Sarkozy”.In response, the Taoiseach accused Mr Adams of being “buddy buddy with some very shady characters over the years”. © 2011 donegaldaily.com, all Rights ReservedThe copying, republication or redistribution of donegaldaily.com Content, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited by law.Follow us on www.twitter.com/donegaldailyFollow us on www.facebook.com/donegaldailyDONEGAL TD: OUR LAWYERS ARE WATCHING GOVERNMENT was last modified: January 31st, 2012 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:DONEGAL Deputy Padraig MacLochlainnTV3Vincent Brownelast_img
