Arsenal need to give Ozil more time, club legend tells talkSPORT

first_imgArsenal legend Ray Parlour has urged the Gunners to give under-fire attacker Mesut Ozil more time, following the German’s lacklusture showing against Manchester City. The former Real Madrid player looked off-the-pace once again, as Arsenal drew 2-2 with reigning champions at the Emirates on Saturday. And his lackadaisical performances have led many to call for boss Arsene Wenger to drop him ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund this week. But Parlour believes they need to show a little patience, insisting that the World Cup winner will come good soon.“He’s not been top class at the moment, but you’ve got to give him a bit of time,” Parlour told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.“I’m not sure how much time you give him though. Certainly he’s got a lot of competition behind him, people like [Santi] Cazorla, [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain and [Mikel] Arteta – lots of midfielders.“I just hope he can find that bit of form, get that goal and confidence, and get back to the player he was. It is tough though when people come to a different league and don’t settle quick.”There appeared to be no concerns over Jack Wilshere though, who continued his strong start to the season with a dazzling performance against City.Wilshere had come in for some heavy criticism over the summer months, but Parlour believes that the England man is finally answering his detractors.“[Jack] Wilshere was excellent. Everytime he was on the ball it look like something was going to happen. People say he’s got to do that on a consistent basis and I agree.“If you’re going to be a top class player then you’ve got to do it week in, week out. He’s getting better every game he plays.”last_img
