All good things must come to an end. Also, all terrible things must come to end. Objectively, Kid Rock’s puzzling Senatorial campaign falls in the latter camp, but at least it’s finally over (we hope). On Tuesday morning, the Michigan Senate hopeful and Pimp of the Nation took to SiriusXM’s Howard Stern and clarified his political intentions, noting that his recent campaigning was a joke and promotional tactic for his upcoming album, Sweet Southern Sugar.Kid Rock Might Be Running For U.S. Senate Because Everything Is TerribleBack in July, Kid Rock announced a potential bid for Michigan’s Senate with the hilarious website, www.kidrockforsenate.com, which didn’t have much on it except for a gift shop for campaign gear, an unsettling picture of Kid Rock with a taxidermied deer, and a GIF with some shitty turns of phrase around the double meaning of the word “party.” At the time, Consequence of Sound looked into the website and saw that it was hosted on Warner Bros.’ website, meaning it was most likely that “the rocker [was] parlaying recent speculation into a marketing opportunity for a new music project.”Pimp Of The Nation: Watch Kid Rock’s Ridiculous Senate Campaign SpeechNow, months later, after Rock has collected an unknown but probably stupid amount of money from fans stoked to see him in office, the wannabe cowboy formally confirmed that his senatorial campaign was a joke. Despite being a marketing ploy for his new album, Rock’s fake campaign did gain a lot of attention, earning actual endorsements from the White House, bigoted melting cheese curd Steve Bannon, and former New York Governor George Pataki. However, Rock definitively told Stern, “Fuck no I’m not running for Senate. Are you fucking kidding me? Who fucking couldn’t figure that out?” He continued to say that announcing the run was “the worst advice that I ever gave myself, but it’s been the most creative thing I’ve ever done, and I got to see everyone’s true colors.”However, while Rock says that it’s clear that his political campaign was a joke, legally, the waters were muddied when he began collecting money for campaign gear and directly stated that he was running for Senate (so pretty much immediately). As it turns out, you can’t pretend to campaign for political office ironically. As noted in an article by Vanity Fair, Paul S. Ryan, vice president for policy and litigation at the nonpartisan political watchdog organization, Common Cause, explained, “Regardless of whether Kid Rock says he’s only exploring candidacy, he’s selling ‘Kid Rock for Senate’ merchandise and is a candidate under the law. This is campaign finance law 101.”During Rock’s interview with Stern, he also shed some light on how the idea for him to pretend to run for office came to be, noting that a fan told him to run earlier this year. With the idea incepted into his mind, he elaborated on what came after, noting he thought, “fuck it, let’s get some signs made… we start going with it. Everyone gets their panties in a bunch. I have people who work for me, they’re on the in, I’m like, ‘fuck no we’re not doing it, but let’s roll with it for a little while. This is awesome.’”[H/T Billboard]
Green Bay fired coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday in a move that surprised many, even Aaron Rodgers. While speaking to the media on Monday, the Packers quarterback discussed the decision and admitted he didn’t see it coming. “I was as shocked as many of you were, I’m sure,” Rodgers said. It’s no secret tensions have been high between Rodgers and McCarthy as the team has struggled to a 4-7-1 record this season. But Rodgers said the entire team shares responsibility for the dismissal following a disappointing home loss to the lowly Cardinals and hopes the reports of a fractured relationship weren’t the motive for McCarthy’s firing. Related News “I hope that’s not the reason,” Rodgers said. “I think him and I, like any relationship, we have our amazing times, we have our times when we butt heads. “As much as what was made, conjecture about him and I’s relationship, it was always built on mutual respect and communication. That’s why this is a different day for myself and the guys in the locker room. We accomplished a lot together. We had some incredible moments.”Rodgers revealed he has not spoken to McCarthy since he was let go but said he intends to reach out to him this week.In the meantime, interim coach Joe Philbin will have his first game at the helm when the Packers host the Falcons in Week 14 action. The HSE in Donegal has pleaded with parents to have their children vaccinated. The plea comes as part of European Immunisation Week which they say is an opportunity to celebrate vaccines in the fight against vaccine-preventable disease. It is estimated that more than 3 million lives are saved each year because of vaccination. The plea comes following an outbreak of both mumps and measles in Donegal and the north-west.A spokesperson said we had not seen diseases like measles in Donegal, Sligo or Leitrim for a number of years, because 95% of children were vaccinated against them.“Last year, the uptake of childhood vaccinations dropped slightly in Donegal and this resulted in an outbreak of measles in January this year.“There is also an ongoing mumps outbreak across Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim. The HSE has been notified of 116 cases so far. As soon as vaccination rates fall, diseases like measles and mumps return. “Fortunately, the majority of people in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim are protecting their children with vaccination. The most recent figures for 2018 show that 90% of children in Donegal received the MMR and 93% of children in Sligo and Leitrim received it.“However, over 95% of children need to be vaccinated with the MMR in order to prevent the spread of measles in our community. This is the goal for 2019, as it is really important for ‘herd immunity’.“In this way, we can protect newborns and vulnerable children, including those with cancer or immune problems who can’t get vaccinated, from coming in contact with measles and other diseases like meningitis.”This year European Immunisation Week runs from 24th-30th April. The goal is to raise awareness of the benefits of vaccination and to celebrate the ‘vaccine heroes’ who contribute to protecting lives through vaccination. Vaccine heroes include health workers who administer vaccines, parents who choose vaccination for their children, and everyone who promotes vaccination. Sadly, we lost one of our own vaccine heroes this year when Laura Brennan, a 26-year-old cervical cancer sufferer, died of her disease in March. Before her death, she campaigned tirelessly to provide young women and their families with the right information on the HPV vaccine, so that they could be protected from cervical cancer in the future.“Every parent wants to protect their child and do what’s right for them. Sometimes it can be difficult to know what to do, now that there is so much false and misleading information on the internet and social media when it comes to vaccination,’ says Dr Laura Heavey, Specialist Registrar in Public Health Medicine in HSE North West,She added “I would really encourage parents to look for information in the right places. Two good sources of reliable, evidence-based information are www.immunisation.ie and the Vaccine Knowledge Project at http://vk.ovg.ox.ac.uk/. Essentially all of the vaccines on the infant, child and adolescent schedule in Ireland are backed up with years of data on their safety.” Another goal for 2019 is to continue to increase the uptake of the HPV vaccine in teenagers. In 2018, 70% of teenage girls in Ireland got the vaccine. In Scotland, where HPV vaccination started over 10 years ago and 90% of teenage girls get the HPV vaccine, researchers have found that the vaccine has nearly wiped out cases of cervical pre-cancer in young women.“We want to see as many Irish teenagers as possible getting vaccinated in 2019, so that we can see those same results here. This year, the vaccine will also be offered to teenage boys. If all our young people receive the vaccine, cervical cancer could be eliminated in Ireland in the future,” said the HSE spokesperson.HSE issues further vaccinations plea as mumps outbreak continues in Donegal was last modified: April 17th, 2019 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:donegalHSEMeaslesMumpsVACCINATION

In their paper published in Frontiers in Zooology, the researchers describe field experiments they conducted that indicated that dogs prefer to defecate while in a North-South stance relative to the Earth’s axis, during times when the magnetic field is calm. Journal information: Frontiers in Zoology © 2014 Phys.org Explore further Dogs recognize familiar faces from images Intrigued by the growing list of animals that appear to have a magnetic sensitivity, the researchers focused on dogs to see if they too had any such abilities. After some initial observations, the team began to notice a pattern of behavior related to stance during defecation—that was enough to embark on some field studies. The field studies were conducted in an open field so as to ensure that the dogs weren’t being impacted by familiar surroundings—in all 70 dogs (37 breeds) were observed circling and defecating for a total of 1,893 times. The dogs exhibited, the team reports, a very clear inclination to defecate with their bodies aligned in a North-South stance. But, more tellingly, when the magnetic field was not calm, the dogs showed no such preference, suggesting that when there is a clear magnetic field, dogs can feel it, and for unexplained reasons, prefer to align themselves in a certain posture. The team also found that freedom was a factor—dogs on leashes didn’t appear to have as much of an inclination to align themselves in any particular direction as did dogs who were allowed to roam free in a field as they did their business. No one can say for sure why dogs might prefer to align themselves in a particular direction when defecating, of course, though the researchers suggest they might simply feel more comfortable. They note that their study also found that the dogs tended to intentionally avoid crouching in an East-West, alignment, perhaps finding it the most uncomfortable of all. Their study, they say, is the first to conclusively show that dogs have magnetic sensitivity.Other studies have found that other animals, such as cattle, deer, foxes, birds and even some species of fish adjust their actions according to the Earth’s magnetic field, though how they do so is still unclear in most instances.
