Salaam Cricket 2018: Sunil Gavaskar reveals why he once sported a moustache

first_imgThe first edition of Asia Cup in 1984 was played in Sharjah, UAE and one thing that was unique about the event was that Sunil Gavaskar sported a moustache during the tournament.Speaking to India Today’s Vikrant Gupta during Salaam Cricket 2018 on Monday, Gavaskar revealed the reason behind sporting a moustache.The former Indian opener said he decided to keep a moustache to get extra five minutes sleep in the morning.”Matches used to start very early – I liked my sleep like most of us and I wanted to sleep five extra minutes. I I didn’t have to shave my moustache then I can sleep extra five minutes,” said Gavaskar.Salaam Cricket 2018: LiveGavsakar also expressed disappointment on the fact that matches are not being held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the venue which has witnessed some classic India-Pakistan matches.”The first flame for cricket in UAE was lit up in Sharjah. That is why Sharjah should be one of the venues. You get a bigger crowd, the stadium is more accessible. I’m disappointed that Sharjah is not hosting any games at the Asian Games 2018.
